Meichen (Rosamond) Hou recently graduated from University of Central Oklahoma with a Master of Music degree in piano performance and piano pedagogy. Her piano and piano pedagogy professors are Dr. Valery Kuleshov, Dr. David Forbat and Dr. Chindarat Charoenwongse-Shaw. Valery Kuleshov is the famous Russian pianist who was the first prize winner in the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Italy in 1987, and also the second prize winner in 1993 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. She has been coaching chamber music groups, operas and musicals, as well as teaching applied piano lessons and piano group classes in University of Central Oklahoma as a Teaching Assistant for the past two years. And she is currently working as a piano instructor in Central Community Music School.
Meichen Hou started playing piano at the age of four. And she has been playing on the stage since she was 6. She was the first prize winner in both 2015 Hong Kong International Piano Invitation Competition and 2015 International Keyboard Odyssiad & Festival U.S.A. in China Division. She was also the Honorable Mention Reward winner of 2016 MTNA Young Artist Competition at the state level in Oklahoma and also the alternative reward winner in 2016 OMTA Collegiate Piano Competition. Most of her students have won several piano competitions, including Hongkong International Piano Invitation Competition, Hongkong Chopin International Piano Competition, OMTA piano competitions and so on. She enjoys playing and performing on the stage, as well as playing for chamber music groups, orchestras and operas. She loves and care about her students and enjoys spending time and efforts with them.
Her teaching philosophy is teaching the students to coach themselves so that they would know how to practice. Her goal is to help students love and learn music in a professional way, so that they love what they play, and play what they love.
