Tanja Knežević

Tanja Knežević is doing Master’s Degree in piano performance at the University of Central Oklahoma where she earned her Bachelor’s in piano performance as well. Tanja was born in Montenegro, a Southeastern European country ravaged by wars, in Nikšić, a city where three quarters of inhabitants lost their jobs. Tanja speaks Montenegrin, English, Spanish, Italian and she is studying French. She can understand Russian, Macedonian, Czech and other Slavic languages. She started playing piano when she was 7. Tanja attended elementary and middle music school for talented kids along with a general school. She had numerous opportunities to perform in public already at elementary school. At the age of 13, she spent a semester studying abroad in Louisiana where she had her first big solo performance at the Louisiana State University of Alexandria. Soon after she came back to Montenegro she decided to audition for the music high school. Her entrance exam was extremely competitive and only four students were to be enrolled. She was accepted, she was majoring in piano and music theory and then her real journey started.


Tanja has been studying with David Forbat and she had lessons with Valery Kuleshov during her piano studies at the University of Central Oklahoma. She has been on a musical scholarship ever since her first year at UCO and she is part of Music Outreach Program through which she organizes 9 musical activities every semester.


Tanja has been giving private piano lessons to kids, teens and adults since 2015, and in 2018/2019 she was teaching 7-8 year olds at the University of Central Oklahoma as part of Piano Pedagogy courses which she has completed. Moreover, she is to become a teaching assistant for the piano department of the UCO School of Music in spring 2019. Tanja cannot imagine her life without classical music.
